Is there a way to use sketched bend on an area of the part that is not the same thickness as the sheet metal?

Issue: I have a .494” plate that will get a pattern lasered out in it. After this op the part will have a pocket milled at the same place the feature was lasered to get the material thickness at his point to .251” so that the feature now can be bent downwards to produce a tab that protrudes out the bottom of the plate. The problem so far is that SW doesn’t like when I want to either create a flange downward or if I use sketched bend to create the tab because the original sheet metal thickness is .494” and now I’m trying to create this at .251”.
