I have an assy with two kits in it (it save the positioning/locating problems): frame and parts

I don't fancy putting the frame in the parts kit and calling it a reference part only. It'll just bog the processor. I just want to have a configuration, and the BOM table just call the parts that are in that configuration.

Is that possible? Any ideas?
