Is it possible to import a sat or step file and retain the original part names

MT 2018-05-04

I have exported a bunch of parts as a .sat file and imported it into SW (2018). Solidworks renames all the parts as the .sat filename [#]. Is there a file format that retains each body's/part's name?

What is the best way to import an assembly type model into Solidworks for easy manipulation?
