Hello, I plan to build a high-end workstation. One of the uses is to run SW. Is i9-7900X or Threadripper better? Do CPUs with AVX-512 have a better performance when running SW? Do these two CPUs offer much better performance than the cheaper i7-8700K?

I am interested in knowing how these CPUs are ranked in general performance. In addition, I plan to run some dynamics mechanical simulations and perhaps also perform some structural analysis to find out if the structures I design are able to withstand some forces without bending, etc.
