Is there a way to implement an automated rev system for Acad files?

What I mean is: SW will automatically fill in the rev block and title block with the current rev. What does it take for Acad to do the same?  I am not up on all the latest Acad methods and tools.  Does acad have the ability to put document properties in as part of the text?

I know you could write routines for Acad that would do this.  I did that 20 years ago before SW.  Is that something that others are using now?
