Installing multiple versions on one computer

When installing newer versions of Solidworks on a system, is there a reason why when you choose to install as a new install rather than update an existing version do all of the settings for file locations use existing locations. I always have to go in & remember to change all of the locations to a new location to prevent overwriting older files with the new version making the old files unusable. Would it not be better to have an option during the install to either use existing file locations or create new locations for the new version. Or if you want to install SW as a new install to create new locations automatically.
