I have looked around for awhile and have not found this topic covered in depth.
A common drawing in the industries I have worked in is the “installation” drawing. In case it is not obvious, it is a drawing that shows how the part or assembly gets mounted into the next higher assembly. However, it can also be much more than this, such as showing reference geometry from other parts and assemblies around this item.
What are some best practices to generate such drawings in SolidWorks? My first attempt at this was to create “installation” assembly models which would pull in all of the assemblies and parts I wanted to use as reference geometry and to generate drawing views. We seem to be having problems with this method when working in ePDM since ePDM will attempt to release all the files inside of an assembly or drawing when going through the lifecycle.
