Images Become Blurry After Exporting a SOLIDWORKS Drawing to PDF – How Can I Preserve the Original Quality?

Title: Images Become Blurry After Exporting a SOLIDWORKS Drawing to PDF – How Can I Preserve the Original Quality?

Hello everyone,

I am experiencing an issue with image quality when exporting a SOLIDWORKS drawing to PDF, and I would appreciate any advice from users who have encountered the same problem.

My workflow is as follows:

  1. Create the label artwork in Microsoft Word.
  2. Export the Word document to PDF.
  3. Convert the PDF to a high-resolution PNG image (1200 pixels/inch).
  4. Insert the PNG image into a SOLIDWORKS drawing.
  5. Save the SOLIDWORKS drawing as a PDF.

The issue is:

  • The original PNG image is very sharp and clear.
  • The image appears acceptable inside the SOLIDWORKS drawing.
  • However, after exporting the drawing to PDF, the image becomes noticeably blurry.
  • When zooming in, text and thin lines show jagged edges and pixelation.
  • The image quality is significantly worse compared to the original PNG and the original Word/PDF file.

I have already tried:

  • Increasing the PNG resolution (up to 2400 pixels/inch).
  • Setting SOLIDWORKS image quality to the highest available level.
  • Using the High Quality option when exporting the PDF.

Unfortunately, the problem still remains.

I would like to ask:

  1. Does SOLIDWORKS automatically compress or downsample raster images (PNG) when exporting drawings to PDF?
  2. Is there any way to preserve the original image resolution in the exported PDF?
  3. For label artwork, packaging artwork, logos, and similar graphics in SOLIDWORKS drawings, is PNG not recommended? Would another format work better?
  4. What workflow do you typically use for packaging drawings or label drawings to ensure print-quality PDF output?

Additional Information:

  • SOLIDWORKS Version: 2022
  • Image Format: PNG
  • Image Resolution: 1200 pixels/inch
  • Drawing Sheet Size: A6
  • The problem only appears in the exported PDF, not in the original image.

These drawings are used for supplier label printing, so maintaining print-quality sharpness for text and graphics in the final PDF is very important.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
