I am using SW2010 SP4.
Amazingly I find I have a little time for playing in SW. So I decided to create our company logo into a 3D part. Sort of a Bas Relief badge. And I got stuck! Keep in mind I can barely spell Surfacing. I am a sheet metal and welding guy.
I used the logo below as a sketch picture and created a bunch of reference geometry to size the various features. The lettering being no problem, I took a stab at the globes. My intention was to extrude the outer edge of the globes just a bit as a base for a domed feature. Did that and it looked pretty good (see the other picture). Then my intention was to cut grooves into the surface of the dome to create the Latitude and Longitude lines. I had those lines in the reference geometry sketch. But getting them onto the domed surface...
I started messing with 3D sketches and intersection curves and then splines on surfaces. But you need a surface for a spline on surface. A face just won't do. So I found myself on the wrong side of the tracks in the middle of the night and the surfacing thugs were beating the tar outa me!
So I am open to all sorts of suggestions on how to create some sort of representation of the LAT / LONG details. I have also attached the beginnings of my part file so you can work with the reference geometry. The file is messy; lots of half baked attempts. Just roll it back to the first two or three sketches.
As you can tell, this is low priority. No idea how I am going to attempt the jet! Thanks in advance. (Now, can someone please call a doctor!)
