How to animate simple Spur Gear in SolidWorks (cont...)

This is in continuation to Deepak's guide on "How to animate simple Spur Gear in Solidworks".

Faith asks: Suppose I wish to do a compound gear. When I mate the driven gear atop the driver gear, both do not rotate as 1 body. What I did was to select both gears, click “set new assembly here”, save it, and now both rotate as one assembly in the train. However, is this the correct way of doing it?

Ans by Deepak: What you can do over here is to mate the planes of both the gears with each other so that if you rotate one, the other will rotate simultaneously.

New Qn: Hi Deepak, what do you meant by "mate the planes of both the gears with each other so that if you rotate one, the other will rotate simultaneously?" What if I decide to add a concentric shaft through the holes of each gear to link both gears together? I wish that when I rotate this shaft, both gears rotate with it as well.
