How Rubbish is SW Materials?

Overlooking the fact that SW2010 crashed within 15 seconds of startup and I'm now downloading a 4.4 Gb Service patch (everyone else agree that this is a reasonable size of file to download?) my biggest disappointment with SW2010 so far is the materials interface.

I can't believe that SW don't know it's a useless piece of junk.

You can't delete materials from it.

User created databases become corrupted for no apparent reason.

Sometimes new materials save and sometimes they don't.

Sometimes you can assign a material and sometimes you can't.

Finding out how to put in non constant material properites is a matter of trial and error.

and don't waste your time waiting for Help to boot up, it won't tell you anything useful.

How hard can it be for a software company to write a half decent and robust interface for the input of a failrly simple set of data?

Pardon my irritation but after living with this dreadful little feature for 2 years I'm more than a little disappointed that SW corp haven't improved something that feels like it's been written by a sixteen year old student for their homework.
