How do I save part configurations to their own part files, assembly file references point to correct file?

This may have been asked but I'm not having any luck finding it.  I have an assembly X.sldasm. X.sldasm contains 2 parts, A1 and A2 which are configurations of A.sldprt.  I want to save A2 configuration into it's own file B.sldprt.  What is the most efficient way of doing that so that the X.sldasm subparts reference the correct A & B.sldprt? If I do a SAVE AS on A.sldprt to B.sldprt, it will change bot A1 and A2 configurations to point to B.sldprt.
