How can I overlap imported DWG views with a solidworks model view?

I received a pdf of a drawing from a vendor and converted it to an AutoCAD drawing using the AutoCAD import feature. I then imported that AutoCAD drawing into a solidworks drawing. Now I need to insert a model view of a solidworks assembly over the imported view, but the solidoworks model is always behind the imported dwg view making it extremely hard to see any detail. I want to "bring to front" the SW model, but that function doesn't exist. I have tried playing with layers and the order of the layers, but that doesn't seem to have any impact on any drawing views (I even tried it using two different solidworks models, at which point they intersected at weird points like the software was placing them on the same plane and overlapping the lines based on how far away an object is from that plane on that particular model)... So far I've spent 2 days trying to do this and can't find a solution anywhere...

At this point I'm about ready to throw SW out the window and generate my drawing in powerpoint...
