When using @ to tag/mention someone it is very hard to find which one is the correct person when there are more than one name. What is the proper way to mention someone?

I check their user-id first and then double verify them. This is annoying and useless. Why not simply copy and paste their name like Deepak Gupta instead of using @ to create ‌. And this should be same as mentioning via @
