Filling in the Gaps?

I've been looking at the Training courses and certs for a couple of reasons. The main reason is to fill in the gaps that I know exist about my SW knowledge. 99% of my training has been "Learn as you go". I started on ACAD back in the late 80's. Moved thru Mechanical Desktop, Inventor and first started using SW three years ago. My experience is similarly "Wide" ranging from product design, gages, fixtures, dies, molds, automation equipment etc.

My goal would be two fold, find all those little things that fall in the "well that will be helpful" to learning the more complex usage of SW, Animations, Simulations and so on. As with any program you probably use only a small portion of what is available to you and you are limited to what you know.

My questions are would going thru the certification process(es) be a good way to go or is there a better way? Is there a "Best route" thru the certs considering the above?

Thanks for any input.
