I am using SW2011 with SP3.
This behavior is not consistent, but I have noticed it on numerous occasions. When I use the References button on the File/Open dialog with the intension of replacing a reference, at times the icon for the reference will not match the file extension. In other words, a part file with a .sldprt extension shows an assembly icon. The best part is that SW fails the replace function because it thinks you are trying to replace an assembly with a part.
Just to clarify, the current reference is to a part, the replacement reference is to a part, the file names of both have a .sldprt extension, but SW shows an assembly icon and fails the replace because it thinks the original is an assembly.
The drawing this failed on today points to more than one part file. This drawing points to a finished sheetmetal part file, a waterjet blank part file, and a fixture part file. The file that the Replace References thinks is an assembly is the waterjet blank part. The waterjet blank part file is derived from the sheetmetal part file by saving the bodies to a new file. Perhaps that operation confuses SW into thinking the waterjet blank file is an assembly since it has external references in it.
Anyone else seeing similar behavior?
Thanks, Daen.
