Feature Manager Filter Crash in Large Assembly

I am using SW2011 with SP3.

I have been working with a rather large top-level assembly and using the feature manager filter to locate items. The filter works as expected except when I try to back out of it. SW crashes consistently.

Within the filter box, if I hit backspace one character at a time, the assembly will slowly rematerialize in the graphics area and feature tree. I can walk the "un-filtering" all the way back to the initial character in the search string. But getting rid of the initial character just dumps me back to the desktop after a 5 - 10 seconds.

The assembly model itself is stable, fully defined, etc. I do not see this behavior on smaller assemblies. I suspect this is a hardware limitation issue but have no data to back that up. System is dated WinXP32 with 4GB / 3G switch.

Addition information edit: I can change the search string text and the filter finds the new items without issue. I just can't complete remove the search string.

Any thoughts? Thanks,

Daen
