I have a questions regarding stress concentrations while performing static analysis.
Below is the SW model and the blue slots are fixed BC. There are 10 slots all around the flat plate. Its a 0.5" thk plate and .
The load (around 700 lbs) is applied as shown below:
The results for stress are :
High stress concentration at the region of the interface of the fixed and non-fixed region. The high stress concentration is only two straight lines , and the rounded region does not have high stress. Is this real? What do I make out of this? The above analysis is with a very fine mesh ( 0.051in max element size). Below pic is the same analysis run with a larger max element size ( 0.105in). In this analysis, most of the region is below the yield stress, but there are still small regions of high stress.
Increasing the element size amplified the high stress regions. Could you guys please provide input on what to believe and what conclusion to make.
