I am using SolidWorks 2023. I have not had this problem with any other drawings.

I make a cylinder using Top view and Top plane.  Then I switch to Front view and Front plane in order to make some openings in the cylinder.  When I select the line tool no grid appears (it is on) and I cannot get the tool to work.  I have performed this operation with other drawings but now it will not work.

I am at a complete loss as to why this is happening.
