So, I have a non-production project I have used to test certain features of electrical.  For this project, I did most of my practice with routing - playing with routing lines, and the references between 2D and 3D.  I have probably run the routing tool around 100 times since starting this project a few months ago.

One thing that we have been discussing here is how to manage 3D models within Electrical.  We have our production models that exist on PDM, and to date I have been just pulling those assemblies in for routing.  However, even though we do not export a 3D model when checking the project in, it is creating one in the network folder assigned to the software.  This model is given a 4 digit number.  Ideally, we would want to simply have electrical route an existing assembly (which would have the same name as the project).  We do not assign a new part number when wires are added in production, so we would prefer not to do so in CAD.

Anyway, to determine what kind of file(s) to expect from the 3D file export, I tried checking this project in.

The check-in process took from 7:15 a.m. until 8:20 a.m.

There were 1038 files created.

It appears that each time a new routing was performed, several files were created.  Even when those routings were deleted and the process repeated, the old files were saved.

This could have been a problem if I had tried to check these files in to a production folder.  Not only would the file creation have taken somewhat longer, but there would be no easy way to delete all the unnecessary files.

How do I ensure that these hundreds of files are not saved when a failed routing is deleted?
