I am trying to get a data card button control to open a specific .slddrw drawing file whose file name comes from a field in that same data card. From what I gather, you cannot insert variable names into the button command string "command" field in the button properties window.

There is no doubt a way to do this using a custom API, however, my organization lacks access to the resources needed to implement such functionality. Instead I'd like to go the "poor man's" route and instead simply have dispatch do the actual opening task.

Right now I have a dispatch menu command handling this task since with dispatch you have access to, and can use the data card variables. Instead it would be really awesome to have a data card button perform this same function. Is there a way to have a data card button do this? Can the data card button trigger a dispatch action? This would be insanely useful!!!!  Can keystroke commands be entered into the data card button command? SHIFT+F10 brings up the right click menu, then hitting the key associated with the first character of the dispatch action would trigger the opening of that command. I just don't know how to have the data card button trigger either the dispatch program directly, or indirectly via keystroke commands.
