Description
We would like to request the ability to customize the visual appearance of navigation tabs within SOLIDWORKS PDM data cards.
Currently, the tab labels and tab states (active/inactive) have limited visual differentiation, and in some environments they can be difficult to read due to low contrast and fixed styling. This can negatively impact usability, especially for users who work with complex data cards containing multiple tabs and a large number of fields.
We propose adding native customization options for:
- Tab font type and size
- Font color
- Background color
- Active and inactive tab appearance
- Border and highlight colors
- High-contrast accessibility themes
- Support for company-specific themes or branding
Business Justification
Enhanced tab customization would improve:
- Readability and overall user experience
- Accessibility for users with visual impairments or color-vision deficiencies
- Navigation efficiency within complex data cards
- User adoption and satisfaction
- Reduction of data entry errors caused by selecting the wrong tab or incorrectly identifying the active tab
Current Limitation
While SOLIDWORKS PDM provides extensive capabilities for designing data card layouts and controls, there is currently no documented method to customize the graphical appearance of data card tabs themselves. As a result, organizations cannot adapt the interface to their accessibility requirements or corporate visual standards.
Expected Benefit
Providing configurable tab styling would allow administrators to create clearer, more accessible, and more user-friendly data cards without requiring custom development or unsupported modifications.
