Embedded Excel object not rendering correctly - SW 2013

Has anyone else experienced this?

We have a large number of users with SolidWorks 2013 and Excel 2010 reporting a problem that, when opening a drawing that has an embedded Excel object, the object renders incorrectly ... the cells are stretched vertically, for instance. If the user opens the object and resizes / corrects it and saves it, then the next time the drawing is opened, it may or may not appear correctly.

We have been working for many weeks with the SolidWorks VAR and our current hypothesis is that this is a problem with an OLE library or shared component. Some of our users have the problem frequently, some rarely, and some not at all. they are all running SolidWorks 2013 SP 5. All are running Office 2010. We also saw the problem on some test users running SolidWorks 2015.

We are looking closely at reports from the users that if the embedded object is an .xlsx object, the problem does not occur, but that .xls objects will exhibit the problem. If so, we will figure out how to convert our .xls sheets en masse, or provide a procedure for the user to do so when they open a drawing and see the issue.

Has anyone else seen this issue? If so, were you able to resolve it?
