I place a dimension or two in a drawing.

I then select 2 dimensions and click the () icon to make them reference dimensions.

The message pops up telling that 'Editing the Dimension will change its spacing' and I click OK.

Both dimensions jump an inch closer to the outline of the view.

Why?

How is this a feature?

Is there a way to prevent it from moving my dimensions? Personally, I'm not sure adding parentheses should count as editing the dimensions at all.

Any suggestions for ridding myself of this irritating behaviour?
