I have been using the following method more and more lately for pulling relevent sketch dimensions into a drawing note from a part that's in session when the drawing is open:
The syntax is "dimension name@sketch name@part name.sldprt". When inserted into a note, this will not display as all of that text that I just typed in the ""s. If there exists a dimension by that name in a sketch by that name in a part by that name in session when the drawing is open, then that text in the ""s will changed to display as the numerical dimension that is being referenced. It will even display with the formatting applied to it in the sketch the dimension is in. The only way to edit this reference is to right click on the text box, and select "Edit Text in Window," where the underlying reference is displayed for editing. This same syntax works in cells of tables in drawings.
My question is, how can I edit the underlying reference in a TABLE as opposed to a text box? When I right click on the cell there is no option to "Edit Text in Window." What I'm trying to do is create dimensions in the DRAWING, and link them to cells in a table (in the drawing). I can do that just fine, but when I save a copy of the drawing under a new filename, the reference in the table is still linked to the original drawing. I cannot edit it and must delete it and recreate the link. I'd like to be able to save a copy of the drawing and have the ability to update the table references so I don't have to recreate the links between the dimensions in the drawing and the table.
