dynamic cross sectioning

maybe i'm mis-remembering, but i was a SW user about 14 years ago.  then i switched to Creo but my company is converting from Creo to SW so I'm back on SW and have been using it pretty heavily for the past 6-12 months.

i know there is a slider handle to drag a cross section.  but i thought back in the day there was a way to slice through the model at a preset increment.  I don't remember if this was done with arrow keys or what so this is where maybe i'm losing it in my old age but I thought that you could do this.  while the drag handle is nice, it only works when you can actually drag the handle.  often, I like to be looking at my section such that my section is parallel to the screen and i'd like to be able to move the section at very small steps as I look for areas of concern.  obviously the arrow keys don't work because those are set to rotate the model.

am I crazy? could this be done in the past and more importantly can it be done now?

Thanks
