Drawing view "extents"

Something that has bugged me for a long time. When working on a detail drawing I may have a couple detail views in different areas of the sheet.

Now say I need to sketch in a line on the sheet somewhere for some arbitrary measurement or reference point. What very often happens then is that one of the views of the drawing will increase is view extents to encompass the line I just sketched (or the entire sheet, or even more than the entire sheet). The model geometry has obviously not changed, so there is NO reason for any of the views extents to change. The only way I know to work around it is to draw my sketch out in left field somewhere, entirely off the sheet, and drag it to where I want it. This is really getting highly annoying. View extents should not change unless the underlying geometry changes. Or, you should be able to lock them.

Come one SW, we pay a lot for this software, we expect it to be first rate.
