I often need to create drawings of parts featuring multiple views, each showing the part in a different display state where certain features of the part are visible in display state "A" and other different features are visible in display state "B", for example.
A problem I'm having is when I'm attempting to add dimensions to a drawing view showing the part in display state "A", if the part file has most recently been open showing display state "B", then the edges of the features visible in display state "B" are what can be dimensioned, even though the drawing view is showing the part in display state "A". Dimensions often cannot be added to lines visible in the drawing view, yet they can be added to empty space where a feature would be in display state "B".
It's fixable by going to the part file, changing the display state to "A" and then going back to the drawing file, and the dimensions can be then added to the features visible in the drawing view, but it's frustrating that this is the only workaround I've found so far.
Is there some setting I can change so that dimensions in a drawing file can only be placed on features in a drawing view of a part in a display state different than what was most recently open in the part file?
