design table won't calculate Excel formulas

Hi all,

I am setting up a model with an assembly-level design table so that I can drive the features in a top-down manner.  I saved my design table as an Excel file, then inserted the design table from the file and linked this file to the model.  When I first set this up, it allowed me to enter whatever values I wanted to in the external design table.  I'm not sure what happened, but for some reason it appears the Excel file has been locked by SolidWorks.  In the \$State variable for a divider wall, I would like to enter =IF(AE8,"R","S") which will look at the state of a check box in a user input form and return "R" for Resolved if the check box is filled.  However, when I try to enter anything other than Suppressed, Resolved, S, R, 1, or 0, Excel gives me a warning and won't allow it.  Also, that formula won't even calculate in the Excel sheet in other cells.  Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Thanks!

Dan
