SW 2011

I'd like to create a hardware library under the design library. When you place a part into it, you are asked to enter a file name and description. It places it in with the file name. I would like the description to be what I see in the library not the part number. I know you can hover over it and see it but this is not practical when you have hundreds of hardware. I don't care what the number is when I'm building and assembly, I just know I need an 8-32 x .500 long screw.....but I want the part number and description (which is added in the custom properties in each file), to show up in the BOM. Can this be done and if so how?
