I am currently testing Workgroup PDM with the aim to start using it in september. I am trying to find a way of doing a particular thing, ideally it would be but it doesn't have to be done using workgroup PDM. I imagine the solution will involve adding the parts to the toolbox.

I am trying to make it easy for people to create derived parts of various standard components such as rod ends, spherical bearings etc. The derived parts need to contain the same dimensions, revision number and other custom properties. However the part has to have a new file name depending on where abouts in the product is used. The parts filenames are the part numbers which a custom property looks up. I would like the parts still be linked to the original so that any changes to the master file can be propogated won to the derived parts, including the custom properties.

Does anyone know a way of acheving this. I imagine the solution will involve adding the parts to the toolbox.
