SOLIDWORKS MBD 2018 will be able to define a pattern as a datum feature as shown in the image and animation as specified in ASME Y14.5:2009.

It's commonly used in mounting hole patterns such as smart phone covers or car wheels.

Could you try out this new enhancement and comment?
