Does anyone know, can the timeout value (i.e. Minutes to wait before failing) be programmatically reset or adjusted a custom task?

I have a couple custom tasks that can take between 1 and 1000 minutes to complete based upon the user PDFing 1 or a 1000 files (exaggerating a bit here) .  The timeout setting unfortunately has to be inclusive of the worst case scenario (so 1001 minutes).  Unfortunately these timeouts are unreasonable, so I've been forced to use 0 (infinite), and just hope my add-in is resilient enough to work properly or exception gracefully.

If I could reset the timeout value while successfully executing, I could have a more reasonable backup watchdog sort of speak.
