Is there any way to automate the change of custom properties in a batch of files?

I have custom properties in alot of files that I'm trying to prepare to put into PDM, but they have different names for the same property (there are about 3 different names).  Is there a way that I can run a script to consolidate all those to the same name or am I going to have to change each file individually/manually??
