I am building a telescopic pole. as part of a project for school.

The special feature of this pole is controlling the length that it extends.

This way one could extend the pole to the length that is most convenient for a particular use.

My partner and my thoughts so far are by using a spring or piston.

We are not sure how to do it yet.. Any helpful ideas will be welcome.
