This has been excessively frustrating, yet another SW feature that flat out doesn't work. 

I select a few components that I want to appear in selected configurations. I right click, click configure feature, uncheck the box for suppress in the configurations I want, click apply, click ok. I open said configurations and nothing has changed. They are still suppressed. I have tried hitting the rebuild button in the bottom left instead, I've tried rebuild all configurations, this feature does not work PERIOD. 

My main questions: does anyone have any work around to get solidworks to do what its supposed to? 

My side question: what is the point of adding so many features to each solidworks update when they continue to break the core functionality of the software? Each year solidworks becomes more and more and more and more unreliable, it fails to achieve the most basic of its features. It crashes more and more, over and over. Why can't they simply make solidworks work? I don't want AI in my software, I want to be able to create a dimension in a drawing without having to wait 10 seconds or god forbid it crashes entirely.
