Configuration specific dimensions

Has this been addressed before?

After inserting model dimensions into a drawing, occasionally some dimensions may have values specific to a certain configuration or be related to features suppressed in other configurations. Denending upon what configuration was last active when the part model was saved, the dimensional values may be greyed out and inaccessable while in the drawing mode. The part model must then be opened to the specific configuration before the dimension can be edited for additional text, etc. This adds extrra unnecessary steps and slows down productivity. Sometimes I have seen this occur even on parts where the dimension was the same for all configurations.

Shouldn't we be able to edit any inserted model dimension, regardless of configuration, with the drawing without having to open up the part to do it? I would think Solidworks would be able to keep up with it.  I don't think ProE has this limitation.
