Anyone having this issue? Or possibly know if we are doing something wrong?
At our company, we use Solidworks 2013 SP. 3 alongside with EPDM SP. 3 to protect and
control our released and approved drawings. We have certain parts (example: spring)
that we can really benefit from using the configuration specific dimension feature. For
example, a spring has a free length and a compressed length, and we can configure these
lengths inside the spring part file to be able to use these configurations in our top
assembly. We only have to create the features for one length and then tell Solidworks to
use a different dimension for the other configuration. The problem that Solidworks is
causing with this is that Solidworks wants to rebuild and save the part file when you switch
configurations. This becomes a problem because we can finalize and approve our spring
and it can no longer be modified or checked out, however if used in another assembly, we
will get rebuild flags each time we use different configurations of that spring. Solidworks
should be able to know that although you are switching configurations, the part is still the
original part and is only changing to the dimensional information that was already inside
the part.
