I was recently awarded an entrepreneurial license to get my start up going in the right direction. The start up is a new 2 seat aircraft kit for the homebuilt aircraft market.
I do most of my work on the go. Whether it's in the airport, on a flight, in a library, etc and my current laptop barely cuts it.
So, my budget is roughly \$2k and I would like to get the best bang for my buck. My modeling, as of right now is fairly simple as it is just an aircraft shell, but soon it will incorporate bulkheads, controls, etc, and I will be running FEA and CFD.
I'm really getting tossed around by specs. You check articles and forums that suggest a bunch of workstations that are well below the suggested thread speed (3.3ghz) that commonly utilize the 8750h (2.2ghz), yet they use a certified graphics card. Meanwhile you can find a gaming laptop that has an AMD Ryzen 2700 (3.2ghz, 8 core) or 8705G (3.1ghz 4 core), which both outperform the 8750h clock speed, but dont have certified graphics cards.
So, what DO I shoot for? A CPU that meets the SW requirements, or graphics card? I just want my machine to run smoothly and I dont necessarily care about the most photo-realistic experience.
