I am using SW2011 SP3.

I have some assemblies that I can not make the components transparent by use of the "change transparency" toggle. I read where there were issues in SW2010 with the transparency between an assembly and a part not behaving, but I could not find a discussion that seemed to match my simptoms.

When I click on the change transparency toggle nothing changes in the display (part remains opaque). If I RMB again the change transparency icon is depressed. Click it and it becomes undepressed. So the toggle icon is cycling, I just don't get a change in appearance.

The assemlby contains some weldments, sheetmetal, fasteners. Not using display states. Some idividual parts have non-default colors added at the part level. The Assembly has an overall assembly color added.

Is this a known issues and I just didn't catch it in my search? Any "cleansing" tips to make it behave?
