I have a small 6-part assembly (a visual indicator) that I need to insert into a much larger assembly.  I do not want to save it as a part, because I need the ability to easily update it later as changes permit.  I have never had a problem inserting an assembly into an assembly, but for some reason, when I click "Make Assembly From Assembly" or "Insert Component>Existing Part or Assembly", the smaller assembly is missing from my file explorer.  I can't regain the ability to see it unless I save it as a part file.

The same thing happens if I open the indicator and try to form an assembly from it.  The larger assembly will not show up in my file explorer.

File>New>Assembly causes both assemblies to be hidden from my explorer!

What could be causing this?
