So I'm trying to turn a detail (O-ring Groove) into a block that I can use on multiple drawings, and it seems that Solidworks (2012) isn't too great at doing this. What seems to be working is I'll save the .dwg file as a .dxf and then open it back up in solidworks to break the link. Then I can convert the view into a block, but any dimensions in the view will not come along with the block. I have resorted to recreating the dimensions as notes and drawing the lines. Is there a better way? Can I explode a dimension into its separate entities? I found a thread from back in 2008 that has about 10 steps in it (Open up DWGEditor). I might as well just recreate the detail view on each drawing I make then.
