I believe this is the appropriate place to ask.
I'm looking for a resource to ask questions relative to checking drawings. I'm thinking along the lines of an online forum. Is there one forum that is better than another for this? Perhaps there is another resource someone could recommend. I don't want to bog down this thread with details but for context my primary responsibility is Tool Designer. I have 10+ years experience making detailed drawings, and I am a Journeyman Machinist.
The person who's primary responsibility it is to scrutinize prints at our company no longer works here. I have been handed this task to take care of until a suitable replacement is found. I need help. We have specific internal standards for drawings but they are vague. Our standards say "ANSI Drafting Standard Y-14 shall apply to all...engineering drawings unless otherwise specified in these standards". I don't think anyone in our building has much of a knowlege of that standard. Not that there is anything wrong with it, it's just that everyone that makes drawings does it however they feel and when they are checked they just need to meet the internal standards. It's a pretty sloppy way of working and I don't want to be advising people to make changes to prints based only on my experience.
I doubt I will be involved in the hiring of the new person, nor am I qualified for HR. That said, I may be involved in training the new person to some extent or another.
If there is anyone out there who does this for a living and can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Matt
