BOM with mixed Part Configuration Grouping

Is there a way to have some items in a BOM follow one Part Configuration Grouping (PCG) method (i.e. display configs of a part as one item) and other items in the same BOM follow a different PCG method (i.e. display configs of a part as separate items)?

I have an assembly with many configurations, and some of the parts have unique configurations to match the assembly configurations. For example my assembly has configurations -08, -10, -12 etc all the way up to -32. Some of the parts have the same set of configurations to match the assembly. Other parts in the assembly are dowel pins, where we use a part file for a specific diameter and different configurations for the different lengths of the dowel pin. These dowel pins stay the same length in all assembly configurations.

When I do my BOM, I want to list all of the assembly configurations and only show one instance of each part whose dash number matches the assembly dash number. For these I will manually change the part number to have -XX and make a note on the drawing that the dash number matches the dash number of the assembly. For the dowel pins I need the separate configurations to show as separate items because those are different length dowel pins.

This BOM displays all configs of a part as one item. That is great for items 1-6 but not good for the dowel pins.

The way we have done this in the past is to manually create the columns as I did in the first example, but this is not good because the qty values aren't linked to the model. I suspect I might be able to make 2 separate BOMs like my examples 2 and 3 and only show the good rows, then stack one on top of the other. I'd really rather not do that if I don't have to.
