Best way to resolve failed mates

I'm a fairly new user of SW after 15 years of working with Pro/Engineering.  My biggest struggle with SW is resolving failed mates, especially when working with another user's assembly.

With Pro/E, part "A" will ONLY display the mates locating that particular part - it will not display all the mates of all the other parts that are mated to "A".  Therefore, investigating a failed part will show only 3 mating constraints in most cases.  To me this is infinitely more managable then having scores of mates and potentially dozens of failed mates.  Are there any options that would could help identify the primary mates?  Does anyone have any suggestions that may help?  I'm tempted to rename the primary mates to each part as it is added, but the time that it would take to do that is not very appealing.

Thanks
