I work in a company that creates a casting model which is a part. then to machine

the casting they put the part into a part instead of an assemble and make assemble cuts.

I know sw will let you do this but, is this the correct way to does this?

I was always learned that you put the casting part into an assembly and make assembly cuts,

and you also get a bom and you see the structure in pdm.
