Hello everyone,
I am currently using SOLIDWORKS connected to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform (PowerBy) and looking for some guidance regarding the workflow between the Product Structure Editor (PAU) web app and the desktop CAD.
1. The Observation Recently, I attempted to modify a SOLIDWORKS assembly (Physical Product) structure directly within the PAU web app. My actions included Reordering and simple Copy & Paste of components. However, after making these changes on the web, I noticed that the original assembly file would not open correctly in the SOLIDWORKS desktop application.
2. Feedback from Technical Support I consulted my local VAR regarding this behavior. They advised that due to the structural differences between the file-based CAD and the Platform, modifying the structure order in PAU can affect the integrity of the SOLIDWORKS file. Consequently, their recommendation was to perform all structure edits (reordering, adding parts) strictly within SOLIDWORKS, rather than using the PAU web interface.
3. Clarification regarding the "3DEXPERIENCE Works" Workflow Since these tools are part of the 3DEXPERIENCE Works portfolio, I had assumed that the interoperability between the Web Apps (like PAU) and SOLIDWORKS was fully supported for these types of tasks. I imagined a workflow where I could manage the BOM or structure on the web, and have it update seamlessly in the CAD.
4. My Question to the Community Before I completely rule out using PAU for these tasks, I wanted to double-check with the community:
- Is this the intended behavior? Is it standard practice to avoid using PAU for structural changes when working with SOLIDWORKS data?
- Has anyone successfully established a workflow where you can reorder or add components in PAU without issues in SOLIDWORKS?
I want to ensure that I am not missing any specific configurations or best practices that would allow this features to work as expected.
Thank you in advance for your insights.
