Best Method to revise a drawings??

Hey Guys,

I have a few drawings in which I am updating an Assembly with relatively minor changes in details... i.e. The overall assembly is remaining the same - all that might be changing is the location of a hole or hole pattern for instance. Which dictates a revision...

Now that being said the drawing has a bunch of details that will remain the same - and can even maintain the exact same layout. Now is there any possible way to `save as`and point that drawing to an alternative model within the drawing so that I do NOT have to start the drawing from scratch??

I assume that I have tackled the cart before the horse so to speak here.... As I have already revised the Assembly with a saved 'revision' Now - I am guessing that I should have approached this differently and done the following method:

1) hit 'pack and go'

2) hit save as on the model in such a way that the drawing is reading from that file

3) make the Assembly / part changes to that file.

4) therefore drawing will be updated with the changes as you go

5) add any detailed dimensions etc as needed....

OR....

is there another suggested method to go about this??

many thanks!
