Would search capabilities be a cool feature for a database?
When I try to open an old assembly SW stops and opens up the file open dialog box allowing me to search the for the file. I browse through the PDM vault or search the PDM vault for the file.
While in the open dialog...
1. select the file name it can't find and copy to clipboard
2. select the search form.
3. paste the file name in between quotes into the form
4. click on the search arrow (don't hit enter)
5. select the file it finds
6. click ok to close the dialog box.
do it again on the next file it can't find.
Wouldn't it be great if rather then telling me to go look for the file SW looks for the file. SW, why can't you search your own database for a file you can't find?
The update references feature works OK but it's an all day job fixing files. You first have to open, save, check in, an assembly for PDM to even know a file is missing. You then have to check it back out and repair it. You then have to open it again. FOR EACH SUB-ASSEMBLY! If you don't do you sub-assemblies and assemblies in order you have to do it all over again.
When SW opens a file and can't fine all of the parts needed why doesn't it just go look for them!
Why can SW not repair references when it's opening files?
