Autocad and solidworks

I am helping design some parts for a gentleman thousands of miles from me.  He has Autocad, unfortunatey, and the company I work for has solidworks.  When I export to .dfx, the spline curvs re replaced with straight segmented lines, and he has to go in and respline it using the points.  It's a serious pain in the backside.

He designed the molds for the part I designed and sent me the .dxf and .dwg files so I could verify them.  Neither will open in Solidworks- says the information in the file is corrupt.  I downloaded a free .dxf viewer off the internet and the .dfx file opens perfectly.

So why won't solidworks open the file?  I tried SW 2011 and SW 2014 and neither will do the job.  It's frustrating.  Our comany is small and decided to go with Solidworks 2014 which depleted our software budget for the year, and our client's comany is very small and cannot afford solidworks at the moment.  Since SW and Autocad are giants in the industry, there has to be a compatibility solution, but I can't find it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.
